Indicted for that he, on the 10th of November , at Enfield, in and upon Sophia, his wife, a subject of our Lord the King, feloniously wilfully, maliciously, and unlawfully, did make an assault, and with a certain sharp instrument, feloniously, &c. did strike and cut the said Sophia in and upon the left side of her head, with intent feloniously, wilfully, and of his malice aforethought, to kill and murder her. Found guilty and sentenced to death with a recommendation for mercy because of the strong provocation he had received

Indicted for stealing, on the 10th of December , at St. Clement Danes, 25 yards of woollen cloth, value 10l., the goods of Thomas Bennett , in his dwelling-house ...Prisoner's Defence. In passing the corner of the court, a man came to me, and said, "Take this to the second shop, and tell them it comes from Mr. Hume, and he wants to sell it" - I was not certain whether that was the shop, and came back to look if Mr. Bennett's name was on the door; the woman said, it was hers - I said,"A young man at the corner gave it me to sell" - I told her to go to the door, to look at him, which she did....Found guilty and sentenced to death. Sentence commuted to transportation for life.
